I have been getting this feeling lately that nature is watching me. The reason for this is "feeling" has been a chain of coincidences that started with this cardinal you see in the picture above, he sits in my crape myrtle and attacks my window all day and night. I tried to get an action video of him pecking at the window but every time I get near the window he just sits in the tree. His girlfriend even came to watch him the other day just peck, peck, peck at my window.
The next thing was a ring necked dove decided to nest in my front porch hanging flower pot. She was there so long she laid an egg. Now this has to be the same freakin dove that does this to me every year, but now it coincides with all this other odd nature.
The first time I come out the front door when this dove is leaving her unborn children for me to deal with is a moment of much hilarity every year. I will open the door and this basket is a tad higher than eye level and that bird is sitting there watching me and I just rush out and she takes off the same time I walk and it turns into a "when doves attach diabetics" episodes. Her wings are flapping, my arms are flapping, and we both are doing everything we can to get away from each other. The whole thing lasts about one minute and if anyone ever saw it I am sure they would pee themselves from laughter by witnessing this odd moment of panic.
The last item happened as I was going out to my truck the other day and this rabbit was just sitting by my drivers side door. Now, yes I have rabbits all over the place (except the backyard, the dogs keep that area free of rabbits), but never had one just sat by my drivers door of my truck and as I got closer and closer he just sat there and I was so close at the end that I was shooing him with my foot just to get him to move.
All these things could easily be explained that it is spring and birds go crazy, birds lay eggs in weird places, and rabbits eat your lawn and get fat and slow. I just think it is more than that or maybe not. Just it was fun to keep having all this happen to me, one after another like I was in the fish bowl and they were tapping the glass.

Diabeetus!
My friend Jeff has a problem, OK so it is not really a "problem" as it is more of an obsession of his. He loves the way Wilford Brimley says: Diabeetus. Kind of like you put the words die-a-beat-us together and create a super disease even stronger than diabetes or something. What Jeff does now is search the inter-web for pictures of this "Diabeetus" and these pictures are quite good and some are just freakin hilarity. Then once Jeff finds these he of course sends them to his good buddy Dave (me) so I thought I would put a montage of these together and share them with the rest of the world.
This first one simply just rocks and not sure why the ADA or JDRF or anybody hasn't taken this one and used it as a national campaign. I like it and if I had the chance to own a poster like this it would definitely go above the fireplace on the mantle. This is a kind of remake of the uncle same posters from the war.
Here is more of a modern dos equis take off of the most interesting man in the world commercials. I like the freakin giant cake in front of him and how he has the rose colored sunglasses on. Then it really doesn't make any sense it is just funny like "Diabeetus" is a noun or something.
Now we get into the pg-13 or older ones with a sexual tone to them. I like his beady eyes and who hasn't used this pick up line in a bar?
This one is the freakin best one ever! If you can't understand the bottom it says: "Diabeetus" and trust me I am trying to figure out a way to somehow use this in the future, maybe a future team name at a race, maybe getting a t-shirt made like this, or who knows but I simply think it hits the glucagon injection right on the syringe with what "Diabeetus" is all about. What is that people tell diabetics all the time: you don't look sick?
If any of this offends you in any way please email me your address to: davehennesey@hotmail.com and I will hand write you an apology letter for what I have done to you. If you need medical assistance because these subjects of poor diabetes jokes drives you into some sort of diabetes shock please include that in your email and I will include in the hand written apology letter a discount code for www.glucolift.com good for your next purchase of all natural glucose tablets. My sincerest apologies and understand I only mean to offend those with diabetes, or that have relatives with diabetes, and people that know how to properly spell diabetes.

philosophical questions answered by the DC!
My friend Amrie was harassing me during Ragnar SoCal that I had a mobile hot spot. Now she wasn't upset that I let her use it to upload documents about our journey or anything while on the trip. She was more shocked that the Diabetic Camper would bring this type of technology on our gypsy road trip.
This shock from Amrie reminded me about how people sometimes don't read the tea leaves right and assume things and her assumption was that I am a master camper that I would shun these types of fancy devices whenever possible to get back to nature and closer to my diabetes or something. The fact is to be a "camper" is more of a mind set which is to go into a place where you have little to nothing and to either efficiently bring it with you (backpack things in, car camping, or gypsy road van) or use what is around you (make a fire to cook, water from a creek to drink from, and a tree to rest your back on while you drop a poop in a whole beneath). See I evaluated how I did at Ragnar DelSol and realized certain things that I did not need to bring and certain things I could bring to make life easier as a diabetic gypsy. Above you can see my worn out neck pillow, my wifi hot spot to connect my inter-web devices, laptop computer to watch the Walking Dead, android tablet for inter-web radio, and my diabetes man bag thingy. So my "camping" brain told me that urban camping was to make my own inter-web for all the down time we had.
Above you can see another thing I realized I needed at Ragnar DelSol which was a power strip to charge everything before we left in the morning to live in the van for 30 some odd hours. So camping is more of a state of mind which says "how can I do this comfortably with a minimum of equipment" and one thing I know for sure I need to do for next Ragnar is bring more CGM sensors (I had a fresh one on and only one replacement at the beginning and they were used up before Friday at noon), bring less candy and snacks, and to have a better power inverter for the van. The power inverter I tried to use in the van was too low that the power strip gave up after like 12 hours. That is the reason for camping, getting outdoors, and being all wilderness and stuff. It gives you a sense of how to survive or make life better so maybe at next Ragnar I will be in a silly costume the entire time but living life to the fullest while someone is uploading it to facebook or something with my hot spot.
